Author Tuesday Interview and Giveaway – Rachel Hollis

It’s time for my favorite day of the week, Author Tuesday!

This week we are featuring an interview with Rachel Hollis author of The Girls series, Party Girl, Sweet Girl and Smart Girl (click titles for my reviews). As I have mentioned before I love Hollis’ books. I happened upon Sweet Girl on Netgalley and was hooked. She apparently does all these other cool things, but I just know her as an author. All thanks to Twitter for allowing me to stalk her just a tiny bit and get her as one of my Author Tuesday authors. Party Girl currently has a 4.5 star rating on Amazon and a 4.06 rating on Goodreads. Sweet Girl also has a 4.5 star rating on Amazon and has a 4.26 rating on Goodreads. Smart Girl releases January 26, 2016 and already has a 4.17 star rating on Goodreads. You can check out Rachel’s Goodreads page here. In addition to her interview Rachel is giving away one grand prize of all three books (signed copies!) and one first prize of a copy of Smart Girl (also signed!) US shipping only. So please enter away, using the Rafflecopter below. Giveaway will be open till 11:59 pm MST Monday, January 25, 2016.

Please provide a quick intro about yourself and your writing.

I am Rachel Hollis, a self-proclaimed book nerd and mother of three, I am the founder of the popular lifestyle blog www.thechicsite.com and Los Angeles-based event-planning firm, Chic Events. At 27, I was named by Inc. Magazine as one of the “Top 30 Entrepreneurs under 30.” I have designed and produced fabulous parties for many of Hollywood’s elite. I am also the author of the Amazon Bestselling women’s fiction series, “The Girls” published by Lake Union Publishing. The second book in the series, Sweet Girl was released in May 2015 and the third in the series, Smart Girl is slated for January 2016. In addition, Thomas Dunne Books will publish my cookbook entitled Upscale Down Home in September 2016. Upscale Down Home is an irreverent collection of recipes for affordable meals presented so polished you’d never know their “lowbrow” origins.

1) Why should people read your book?

Wow, this feels like a big question! Um, because it’s funny? Because it’s lighthearted and will make you smile? Because it’s about a book nerd (which most of us are) and has a million literary references? Any of these answers work for me. =)

2) Where is your favorite place to write?

In a hotel room on vacation. I’ve only been able to do this a couple of times when I’ve snuck off on a business trip with my husband and it was lovely. So many places to set up my laptop… so much room service to order. In a perfect world I’d be like JK Rowling and I’d do all my writing at the fancy hotel.

3) What are you currently working on (new book, remodeling your home…)?

I’m re-working a book I’ve been writing for about 4 years… it just might be the death of me.

4) What is your favorite comfort book (the book you re-read because of how it makes you think/feel)?

I have some favorite romance I’ve read over and over… Kingdom of Dreams, Discovery of Witches, anything by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I love the familiarity of my favorite characters and their path to happily ever after.

5) What is the next book in your TBR (to be read) pile?

I was super lucky to score an ARC of Sarra Manning’s new book but it’s set in a similar time period to what I’m writing currently so I have to wait. As soon as I’m finished with my book I can’t wait to read that one!

6) Turn on your music player and hit shuffle – what song/artist comes up first?

Hahahaha, Shoot and Ladders by KORN. Dear me! Allow me to explain because that is not a great representation of my musical sensibilities. My high school mascot was a Scotsman and the beginning of this song has a cool bagpipe intro that our mascot would run onto the football field with. I got this song because I thought it would pump me up while I did cardio… I skip to the next as soon as the bagpipes stop.

7) What’s your random talent (balancing a spoon on your nose, saying the alphabet backwards…)?

I can say the alphabet backwards though suddenly I’m wishing my random talent was way cooler.

8) Ask the reviewer – what question have you always wanted to ask a book reviewer?

What color is your nail polish? I have’t really been saving up a book reviewer question but I do love nail polish, so what are you currently wearing? Laura – I also love nail polish! Currently my fingernails are midnight blue with snowflakes in white with sparklies on my ring fingers. My toenails are robin’s egg blue with white cherry blossoms on my big toes.
