Monthly Wrap-Up – April 2016

Welcome to the end of another month. I can’t believe that April is over already! It was a busy month as usual, but it was a fun month. I am linking to Best of the Bunch, Feed Your Fiction Addiction’s monthly Wrap-Up Round-Up and The Book Date’s Month in Review. So check out what I did in April, my top pick and my most anticipated books of the coming month.

I reviewed five 4 1/2 star books this month. Sunday’s on the Phone to Monday by Christine Reilly, The Beast by J.R. Ward, This Side of Providence by Rachel M. Harper, Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld, and The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi. They were all fantastic reads in their own ways, but only one made me cry like someone just punched a kitten. So my best of the bunch for April is Sunday’s on the Phone to Monday by Christine Reilly!

This Month in Review…

I was one of the featured ABCers on Andi’s ABCs. Much thanks to Andi for having me! You can see my post here.

I was also one of the featured bloggers over at The Book Addicts Guide Book and a Beverage series this month. I heart Britany and it was awesome to be included. You can check it out here.

Shout out to StacyRenee at Lazy Day Literature, I made her top ten bloggers post. She is a delight and I love her reviews. You can check her and her list out here.

I woke up one Thursday morning in April to a fantastic email from Goodreads, “You’re one of the top 1% of reviewers on Goodreads!”. So I’ve got that going for me.

1459554269 1459554269 goodreads misc

ARC April – I joined the ARC April event over at Read.Sleep.Repeat. I got to Diamond Reader Level with 26 ARC’s read this month. Nineteen of them have been reviewed so far and you can check them all out here.

I finished three other challenges this month –

Netgalley & Edelweiss Reading Challenge hosted by Falling for YA. I wanted to get to Platinum 75 books read and I was at 76 when I last updated.

2016 Debut Author Challenge hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. A challenge to read 12 or more middle grade, young adult, and new adult debuts this year. My goal was to read at least 12 in 2016 and I was at 12 when I last updated.

I finished my Goodreads challenge. I was unsure how many books I read in a year as I have never super tracked it, so I picked a low challenge goal as I super hate not finishing a challenge (never play a board game with me, I am a mean winner).

You have read 101 of 100 books in 2016. Pages read – 33,094. Longest book Whisper to Me by Nick Lake at 544 pages. Shortest book read Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire at 173 pages.

If you are ever curious on my reading challenge stats during the year, I update my Challenges page about every other week. You can check it out here.

I hit over 1,000 blog subscribers and twitter followers! I am so happy that you all come over and seem to enjoy my little corner of the web. I would still review if no one visited, but it is way more fun with you guys. So many, many thanks.

I created a tribe on Triberr in March and am still accepting members (Book Bloggers Unite). It is a service to help and encourage social media sharing of posts. You can sign up to join for free and I will make any joiner a member to enable sharing right away.

I am lucky as I had already read both of my book clubs April picks. I have reviewed Beautiful Affliction before, and will post a review of All the Bright Places in May. I will be reading Shadow and Bone (The Grisha, #1) by Leigh Bardugo and The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan in May for June reviews.

What’s Next?

I will be hosting the Wrap-Up Round-Up giveaway for April. The post will go live May 8th and I’ll link to it as soon as it goes live.

I will be at BEA in May so please let me know if you are going as I’d love to say hi!

I will be slowing way down on posting in May. I am currently posting between 14 and 19 times a week with reviews, features and memes and I just don’t have the time to continue that right now. Between our vacation, BEA and some huge work projects coming due in June I will be super busy. I will be taking a temporary break from all memes except for WoW, as I already have it scheduled through the month, and my Weekly Wrap-Ups and will move my Saturday Soapbox feature to monthly instead of weekly. As much as I love them all they take at least two hours for me to write each and I’m already going to be tight with my packed review schedule. But don’t fret, Author Tuesday and United States of Books will still be happening! I will reevaluate what to continue to participate in towards the end of the month. If there is something you love and will miss, please let me know.

  1. It looks like you had a busy blogging month. I have This Side of Providence sitting on my TBR shelf, so hopefully I’ll get to it soon. I’m impressed that you can review so many books in a month. I only review about two a week.

  2. Wow, what an incredibly busy month you’ve had reading, reviewing and blogging – I’m in awe of you! I’m glad your blogiversary celebrations went so well. I’m looking forward to reading all about BEA, I hope you have an amazing time there.

  3. What an incredible month, Laura – you must be really proud. Looking through your reviews for April, I’m pleased to see that we both agreed that The Martian and The Star-Touched Queen were something special – though they couldn’t have been more different if they tried… I’m not surprised you’re easing up the pace somewhat during May – and I look forward to continue to read a range of well crafted and articulate reviews from you. Have a great month! My Weekly Wrap-Up is here
