2015 Wrap-Up

How is it the end of 2015 already?! What a crazy and busy year I had. On the personal front I was promoted to CFO at work and, while amazing, it means I generally work 60+ hours a week and have at least six out of town trips a year. Luckily I have an amazing and supportive family, and my husband puts up with a lot. On the bookish front I started 125Pages! I have always been a reader, but had never really know about blogs and the book blogging community. Then I read a book review in a magazine that sounded interesting and when I went to look it up, all the websites that had reviewed it referred to their ARC copies. What was an ARC, and how did these folks get to read the book before it came out? That question started me on the path that led to all of this. I love my site and all of the other bloggers that I now consider friends. I hope 2016 is even more exciting and that 125Pages continues to grow. So check out what I accomplished this past year.

I am linking to Feed Your Fiction Addiction’s yearly wrap-up and Semicolon’s 2015 Book List. I would have loved to participate in either the End of Year Survey hosted by The Perpetual Page Turner or the Statistics Survey hosted by The Book Addict’s Guide and Andi’s ABCs, but as I did not blog the whole year I did not keep good notes from before I started. Next year I will be able to tackle them with (I hope) ease as I am working on finding an organization system that works for me (please feel free to offer suggestions!).

Books Reviewed in 2015

I have reviewed 124 books since I started 125Pages in April. If I had known I was only one away from the number in my title I so would have gotten one more in there! I am unsure of exactly how many books I read as I know I read before the site began in April and I also read some that did not get reviews. My goal for 2016 is to actually track all books read, including re-reads, to see how much I really read.

Best of the Year

The standout of the year for me was Menagerie by Rachel Vincent. This was the only 5 star book I reviewed this year that was not a comfort read (a book I re-read over and over for the feels, and they get an auto 5 star). Menagerie just excelled at everything. The pacing, world building, characters and plot were all top-notch and the addition of a strong emotional layer just made this such a phenomenal read.

Bookish Things

I was able to participate in some fun bookish things this year.

I redesigned the entire site and I love the new look. It just makes me happy when I see it.

I wrote on why all reading is important. In Defense of Reading.

I participated in Andi’s ABC’s Pocket Letter and The Broke and the Bookish’s 6th annual Secret Santa.

I finished my 3 Quotes 3 Days Challenge. Day 1, Day 2 and Day 3.

I was able to participate in Diversity Month over at Read Sleep Repeat twice. Post 1 and Post 2.

Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon was a crazy book filled day.

My first month in the Guest of the Month Club was December.

I also planned The United States of Books for 2016.

Author Tuesday is probably the thing I like most about having a book review site. I get to interact with some great authors and help others find out more about them. I am booked out with authors till June 2016 and am overwhelmed by the positive reaction I have received from the author community. You can check out the list of past and future participants here.

My favorite covers of 2015

I noticed a theme, if the cover is sparkly or looks like snow or rain falling I love it. I’m not sure what draws me to the cover of Unhinge so strongly but it just gives me the feels.
