This Week’s Question:

Have you ever ventured out of your comfort zone in terms of reading a genre you have never read? If so, did you get hooked on that new genre?

I have been venturing out a bit lately. I have read a few historical fictions The Edge of Nowehere and The Edge of Lost that I just loved. I also read a comic book in novel form, Black Widow Red Forever, that was just great. I do tend to read a wide array of genres, but certain ones just never seemed like I would enjoy them. I am very glad I have had the chance to read a bit out of my box lately and hope to continue that trend. I don’t know if I am hooked on either genre, but I would no longer hesitate to read them.

Now how about you? What has been your latest out of genre read and did you like it?

  1. Historical fiction is a fascinating genre! I need to go back to reading more such books, as I used to do so years ago. What I do read now is historical romance, which, of course, is not the same thing.

Some time back, I did read the “Twilight” graphic novel, which I enjoyed. I don’t see myself reading many graphic novels in the near future, though. Funny thing….when I was a kid, I used to devour comic books!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend, and thanks for sharing!! : )

    • I have always shied away from historical fiction as I thought it would be boring. I am glad I was so wrong, as I have read some really interesting books in that genre lately.

  2. I used to slide all over the place and read more or less anything and everything. These days, I tend to mostly stick to speculative fiction – but I do occasionally read other types of books. ‘Radio Silence’ by Alice Oseman is the latest book I read that was contemporary coming-of-age without any kind of alien or magical being – and very good it was, too.

  3. I always say I don’t like historical fiction but then I realised I just don’t like historical fiction from certain periods – namely ones that involve the English Monarchy or the Tudors because they are favourite non-fiction subjects. I do like books around world war II for example and that is technically historical. I haven’t ever tried a comic book but I really don’t like animation (no Disney movies for me) so I can’t say they appeal. Have a good weekend. Emma

  4. I forgot to mention graphic novels . . . I definitely read more of those than I used to, mostly thanks to my husband. 🙂 I’ve always enjoyed historical fiction. I am glad you enjoy reading it too!
