Top Ten Tuesday – Ten Of The Best Books I’ve Read Recently

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is Ten Of The Best Books I’ve Read Recently. I reserve 5 stars for really special books and am pretty stingy with 4 1/2 stars as well. I knew March was a good reading month as I had seven 4 1/2 star reads. I only had one in February and a handful in January. In case you missed my reviews, they are all linked below. So in no particular order here are the ten best books I have read since the beginning of the year.

Every Heart A Doorway by Seanan McGuire.  It had everything I look for in a story; interesting characters, diversity, a surprisingly compelling storyline and all the feels.

This is Where the World Ends by Amy Zhang. I was initially worried about how I would like it as it says in the blurb that it has a nonlinear writing style and dual narrators and that could be very very good, or very very bad. The good news, it was amazing!

The Way I Used to Be by Amber Smith. An emotional powerhouse.

An Unattractive Vampire by Jim McDoniel. I am a big fan of tall, dark and supremely hot vampires. So when I saw a book focused on a fugly vamp with no social skills and no soul mate to seduce, I was skeptical, but it was vamp based. And now I am here to tell you to go get this book!

Firstlife by Gena Showalter.Great action, great characters and a gripping and unique plot.

Seven Ways We Lie by Riley Redgate. A great example of why adults like Young Adult fiction. Rich, detailed and full of emotion.

The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner. The Serpent King is one of those books that transcends stereotypes and drills deep into the heart of a reader.

The Passenger by Lisa Lutz. Enter The Passenger, a book that totally lives up to the hype and kept me up to the wee hours as I was compelled to figure it out.

The Edge of Nowhere by C.H. Armstrong. I am not usually into historical fiction but this story swept me up and sucked me in.

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. So I kept hearing about this book Six of Crows, like hearing about it over and over. I requested it from the library to see what all the hype was about. And hoo boy was it hyped correctly

So that is my list of ten of the best book I have read recently. What are your top picks?

    • Seven Ways We Lie was a unique read. I really like the multi-pov in it. I hope you get to read it soon! 🙂

    • Sometimes it is hard to limit when it comes to a good book! Every Heart a Doorway was just so different, I really want more.

  1. I’m now interested in The Way I Used to Be, The Passenger, and Six of Crows. The first book is compared to Speak, and my younger daughter read that in middle school and then I read it also, since she loved it so much at the time. Good choices!

    • Thanks! I have not read Speak but have heard good things so I think I will have to see if my library has it. 🙂

  2. I’ve recently requested Every Heart a Doorway and am hoping that I’ll get a Netgalley arc – and the other book I keep seeing pop up is This is Where the World Ends. Hopefully not too depressing?? Thank you for a really interesting list and this is such a good one, I think I’ll probably add my recent favourites – so far it’s been an amazing reading year!

    • Every Heart a Doorway was so very good. I really hope you get a chance to read it. This is Where the World Ends was a bit depressing, but in a good way if that makes sense. Glad you liked my picks. Hopefully you can add some reads to your great year. 🙂

    • Firstlife was one I needed to read. I really enjoy Gena Showalter, so I pushed it to the top of my reading pile. I have seen good and bad reviews for it, but I loved it. Hope you get to read it soon. 🙂

    • It was such a great read! It was so much more than I was expecting in the best way. I hope you get to read it soon. 🙂
