Weekly Wrap-Up – November 28, 2015

Welcome to my weekly wrap-up! Here is where you can see my books read during the past week, books I have added to my shelves, any bookish happenings and the like. I have linked to Stacking the Shelves, the Saturday Situation, the Saturday Review of Books, Talk of the TownBought, Borrowed & Bagged, The Sunday Salon, the Sunday ShowcaseCaffeinated Book Reviewer’s Sunday Wrap-Up and Mailbox Monday. So check out what I’ve been up to this past week.

Books Added This Week

From NetGalley

What She Left by T.R. Richmond. A new psychological thriller for me, yay! – In this brilliantly modern novel of love, obsession, and revenge, a professor pieces together the life and mysterious death of a former student—and unearths a shocking revelation about her final days.

From Edelweiss

eleven hours

Eleven Hours by Pamela Erens. As a mom I find the concept of this book intriguing. – Eleven Hours is the story of two soon-to-be mothers who, in the midst of a difficult labor, are forced to reckon with their pasts and re-create their futures. Lore must disentangle herself from a love triangle; Franckline must move beyond past traumas to accept the life that’s waiting for her. Pamela Erens moves seamlessly between their begrudging friendship and the memories evoked by so intense an experience. At turns urgent and lyrical, Erens’s novel is a visceral portrait of childbirth, and a vivid rendering of the way we approach motherhood—with fear and joy, anguish and awe.

The Lux Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Trisha over at Yellow, Green, and Read All Over recommended this series and I have gone all in. Teenage aliens, the ladies who love them and the shadowy government  agency tracking them. Like Roswell in book form and not set in New Mexico

Bookish Happenings

This was a slow bookish week for me. Between emergency rooms (my 85-year-old MIL tripped and broke her foot and my 10-year-old daughter pushed her earring backs into her holes and we had to get them removed), my super fun pink eye, Thanksgiving and Black Friday shopping (all on-line, no stores for me till after the new year if I can avoid it) my reading time was cut short as well as my internet time. Thank goodness I schedule and pre-write (other than this one) all of my posts at least two weeks out. This is a busy time of year for me between work, family stuff and the Holidays so my reading and internet time gets compromised. But as long as I get some time in I’ll be good.

Two of my auto buy authors and WoW picks come out on Tuesday, December 1st so I am really excited to go grab them. Sweet Ruin by Kresley Cole and Blood Kiss by J.R. Ward.

Author Tuesday – Kirker Butler author of Pretty Ugly is featured this week. You can check it out here. Kirker is also giving away a signed copy of Pretty Ugly so be sure to register to win while you are there.

Up Next – December 8, 2015 – Lynsey James author of Just the Way You Are.

I made my Andi’s ABC’s Pocket Letter  and got it sent out to YA Book Nerd. I can’t wait to see if she likes it.

I have three giveaways going on currently all ending in the coming week, so go enter to win while you still can.

2 copies of The Sister Pact — Ends Nov 30th, 2015

•One (1) winner will received a $25 Amazon Gift Card, a copy of Claire Daly: Reluctant Soul Saver, a book mark, a coffee mug, and some other stuff for ‘readers’ from the author (INT) • Three (3) winners will receive a copy of Claire Daly: Reluctant Soul Saver by Michele Brouder (INT) — Ends Dec 4th, 2015

Signed copy of Pretty Ugly (US Only) — Ends Dec 1st, 2015

  1. It does sound like a manic week Laura. I hope your family are healing. (I always schedule posts two weeks ahead too – have to be organised!).

I signed up to Edelweiss over a year ago and haven’t used it yet (the emails are piling up). Perhaps it’s time I started looking …

Have a great week and thank you for linking up with #TalkoftheTown

    • Luckily it’s been a nice calm weekend, so hopefully it’ll stay like it through the week. 🙂 I’ve found scheduling to be my most used tool. That way if something happens I am covered for a few days at least.

I’ve really grown to like Edelweiss. The one nice thing is that they have books really far out so I have plenty of time to review them. I have some not releasing till June of 2016.

  2. Some of the Lux series books were really cheap on Book Outlet due to the Black Friday sale, and I was so tempted to order them, but since I live outside US/CA, I determined the large shipping cost maybe wasn’t worth it. I just might have to get them as ebooks instead. 🙂
    Have a good Saturday!

    • Everyone is doing fine now, but it was rough. Ditto on feeling like I miss good stuff. I see stuff others post (especially you!) and I think “How did I not see that!” So far Lux has been good, but I have some new releases coming in Tuesday that I must read asap as they are by two of my favorite authors. So Lux will be put on hold till after they are read. 🙂

    • I refuse to step into a store Thanksgiving weekend. The couple of bucks I’d save are not worth the hassle. And since almost all stores now offer the same deals online I’d rather stay up to 3 am and shop from the comfort of my couch. 🙂

    • Awe, my blogger from another mother. 🙂 I have to schedule out so I can track everything. When I first started my blog I would do every post the night before and would stay up way too late and get frustrated. Now between scheduling and Easy Content Templates my time spent writing is way less, so I can read more. 🙂

Whoa! what a week. Hope things have settled down. I’ll have to keep the Lux series in mind when in the alien mood as I love Roswell series (tv – haven’t read it).

    • I never expected it would happen as she has had her earrings for over four years. But she said she pushed the backs on super tight as she was afraid the earrings would fall out. It only took a week of her pushing them together for it to happen. So the Dr. suggested getting the plastic disks to go between the back and the ear.

Lux has been good so far. I finished three and will start four soon. 🙂

  4. Oh no, you have a lot going on. Hope your MIL recovers soon, ouch. I share your feeling about stores this time of year- so hectic! Online shopping is nice. 🙂

Have a great week! The Richmond book looks fun.

  5. Oh no… a few medical emergencies there. Hope everything’s better with your MIL now!

I like the look of a couple of your new books – though What She Left sounds familiar. I might have read it (or have it) with a different cover!

    • It was a crazy week, but all are on the mend now.
I think What She Left came out under a different publisher last year as I saw a different version on Amazon, so you could have come across it before. I hope I like it, as the synopsis sounds great. 🙂

  6. wow. You get almost as much done in a week as I do in a month. The only reason I get so many blog posts written is because it’s my way of studying for my Abnormal Psychology class! Thanks for stopping by my blog!

    • It’s all down to scheduling posts for me. I try to post once a day and at least three reviews a week. Right now I have my scheduled posts written till the 27th of December. Hope the rest of the semester goes well for you. 🙂

  7. I cannot imagine the Er trips amid Black Friday shopping and other holiday happenings. That must have been very tiring. I hope everyone is well. I tend to slow down in reading in these last two months of the year.

    • It was super crazy, but luckily was over by Thanksgiving so we were able to have a nice holiday.

I actually tend to read more the last two months as the first two months of the year I travel for work a lot, so I try to squeeze it in now. 🙂

  8. I LOVE the Lux series, it’s absolutely one of my favorite feel good series of all time. I flew through them and they gave me all the fuzzies!
    Great list!
